Really think about this in terms of a successful business. For the last 18-something years you were the CEO, large and in charge! But, now you MUST step down and simply be the Consultant.

This phase of parenthood is no longer about running the company and being in charge of your adult child's life. You had that opportunity when they were dependent. 

Parenting an adult child is offering your advice and guidance; then allowing them to implement, only if they decide to do so.

“Let me know if I can help,” is a wonderful phrase to adopt. It allows you to voice your availability without overstepping that line of independence that you both are working toward.
