Cheri was recognized by the Director of Business Consulting in Dunboyne for the preparation and execution of a pivotal Kaizen Event. The event documented current process and identified areas for improvements. These are all documented now as part of the MFG Boost Project plan. We are already seeing closure of actions and the value of the improvements. Kudos to the team - On Point Problem solving and Just Do It in Flight - Great Demonstration of Experiment, Learn and Adapt.
During Shield decommissioning activities, Cheri was appointed lead of the documentation workstream to ensure Retirement Plans & Checklists were completed. 38 Documents were pre-approved, executed and post approved by due date. She also ensured the closeout and archive of all B130 decommissioning documentation according to records retention policy including 260 boxes on 6 pallets sent to MMD Records Center.
At the beginning of 2023 and for the duration of the first quarter Cheri was selected to offer her skills globally with the support the Dunboyne BioCel Team in Ireland.
Cheri provided consultation for the start up operations and provided valuable feedback during this time. She also established a downtime resolution workflow which included stakeholder concurrence for issue reporting, immediate compliance risk assessment, pathway to Tier escalations, and metrics to track success during PPQ. 503 of 640 Total ENG2 issues were closed; 137 open issues were classified as continuous improvement or are awaiting change control concurrence prior to closure.
Towards the end of her assignment Cheri also began supporting QC Micro 50% of her time to perform final review/approval of Environmental Monitoring data in MODA. The data approval supported completion of 4 EM Trend Reports which mitigated a compliance risk prior to PPQ and the Global Audit.
The end of the Shield program brought anxiety and worry to many of the PSM team members for how their roles would change and what may happen. This period required outstanding leadership from Cheri, and she delivered. Cheri was engaged with her team and led with a calm, empathic, and reassuring demeanor.
She prioritized the right actions and worked quickly to determine the ‘what’, ‘where’, and ‘when’ for team member transitions and shared relevant and timely communication throughout this process. Cheri should be tremendously proud of her efforts to support her team and use this experience for managing large change initiatives with future teams.
The end of the Shield program was unquestionably the most difficult period of the 2022 Shield campaign. It is in these difficult moments, however, that leaders emerge--Cheri certainly did.
Cheri led her team’s efforts to train on the process and have them be ready for commercial manufacturing. This was no small feat given the limited batch manufacturing, constrained materials, and a complex manufacturing process.
This was accomplished by maximizing training opportunities and thinking differently about how training could be done. Non-traditional means such as water runs, dry fits, and other process mock-up’s served as an effective supplement to hands-on learning, which allowed for Cheri and her team to condense the training window far beyond historical planning and achieve a ready-state should commercial batches been needed.
After several PSM hand-offs in 2021, Cheri led the PSM group for the duration of 2022. These responsibilities had her overseeing a group of 4 people managers and an organization of 50 team members. Cheri developed and nurtured relationships with her team to drive the PSM activities and effectively lead this large organization.
The most significant challenges of 2022 were leading the PSM team through PPQ manufacturing execution and the cessation of the Shield program activities. At cessation, Cheri demonstrated a strong care for her people that translated well for her team accepting the changes and moving forward with their new assignments. With her support, the PSM team was reallocated to new areas on the Durham plant site continuing to manufacture life-saving medicines.
Cheri should be proud of her 2022 contributions, and we look forward to her continued leadership in Dunboyne and decommissioning for the 1H 2023.
Cheri was able to coordinate the mitigation of Hypochlorite residue. Then, she took the very complex task of EMPQ execution, methodically broke it down into simple, executable tasks, and communicated these ever-evolving activities to the EM and Operations team members.
Planning the cleaning and coordinating sampling in a dynamic environment, she was able to overcome OOS results, HVAC challenges, material stock issues, and the sheer scope and scale of this massive undertaking.
Cheri was even on the floor cleaning herself. Her leadership, most importantly, led to the safe and compliant execution of the cleanings and documentation leading to the qualification of the facility.
Cheri participated in the development, review, edit, and approval of more than 10 new GMP documents. The aspects of owning these procedures many times took the coordination between the entire IPT, giving and receiving feedback on procedural preferences, all while keeping the best interests of operations on the forefront of her mind.
Cheri participated in the development of, and training for, use of an electronic logbook to capture the state of the shop floor to ensure we are in a perpetual “inspection ready” state. The roll out of this program was essential to remain in compliance with a regulatory mandate at the site level.
Cheri had a hand in hiring of over 100 technicians and several M1s during 2021, by reviewing resumes, interviewing, and helping to on-board new Merck and contract employees.
She even helped to organize and participated in Merck career fairs that generated hundreds of leads for future talent, many of which are now working within Project Shield.
As an M1, Cheri was instrumental in the messaging around the switch from the MK-7110 project to V599. Her positive leadership and acceptance of change in the face of uncertainty was a galvanizing force by which we could make a seamless pivot into the unknown.
Leading by example, Cheri welcomed the challenge presented by a new project, and used her experience in GMP manufacturing becoming an immediate asset in preparing the Operations team for execution.
